Wisdom teeth have several different clinical presentations. If you are having pain or discomfort from the wisdom tooth area, we will first need to diagnose what the problem is and if it fact it is from a wisdom tooth.
If we ascertain the source of the problem is the wisdom tooth, then we will need to decide whether or not it needs to be removed. Not all wisdom teeth require removal.
The decision on whether a wisdom tooth requires removal is based on
Only clinicians with experience in oral surgery are able to accurately diagnose whether a wisdom tooth needs removal or whether it can be left alone without any further complications.

Here we will decide:
a) What the source of the pain or discomfort is
b) If the source is a wisdom tooth we will decide along with you whether it should be removed
We will require panoramic x-rays and in some cases cone beam computed tomography to assist us in the diagnosis.
If it is deemed that the wisdom tooth is the source of the problem and that it ought to be removed then we will move to the next phase
With the aid of panoramic x-rays and cone beam computed tomography we will be able to plan the safe and efficient removal of your wisdom tooth. This includes where to access the wisdom tooth, whether or not it needs to be sectioned and the easiest exit path.
At this phase, you will also be offered the opportunity to use Platelet Rich Fibrin. One of our qualified staff members will draw 2-4 vials of blood which we will use to centrifuge and form a fibrin clot.
This can later be inserted into the extraction socket which facilitates healing, growth factors and ensures the fastest possible recovery time after surgery.
Local anesthetic is placed in the area of the wisdom tooth/teeth which need to be removed.
Prior to this, if you wish we are able to perform the procedure under intra-venous sedation or using oral sedation methods.
Our experienced clinicians will remove the wisdom tooth/teeth safely and efficiency. We will normally place 2 or 3 sutures at the area the tooth was removed. The surgical site is cleaned thoroughly and any bleeding is stopped.
A full set of post-operative instructions tailored to you will be given to you verbally and in writing.
Our caring staff members will contact you the next day to ensure you are healing well.
A review appointment is made with our doctor to check the site is healing well after a few weeks.
